Crystalline “Glaze Standards”
Below are examples of what I have coined a “Glaze Standard”. They manifest as small vases… but they are actually much more of a testament toward my progress.
All of my glazes are produced here in the studio using individual ingredients, and initial tests are done on a disposable ceramic dome. If it comes out well, that glaze is test fired again on these 15cm cast porcelain vases. Separate firings detail whether the glaze is reproducible, and a successful outcome is deemed a “standard“.
While one vase is kept as a reference, the others are made available for purchase, providing mementos for those interested in supporting my exploration.
As all of my other work is wheel thrown/altered, these occupy a completely different vein in my artistic experience. They are not offered in galleries and therefore priced accordingly.
They make great gifts to both collectors and non-collectors alike.

*Yes, the colors above are accurate. The glaze is an altered version of the original “Red‘nd Rainbow” base. This piece was shot using mostly diffused light sources to reduce the glare (which is not my first choice when photographing my work). The glaze is actually more glossy, and the rainbow colors are much more metallic (more like luster than iridescence).
